What are the signs of worn out shocks?

Worn out shocks will no longer be controlling the spring movement as it reacts to bumps or dips in the road giving the passenger an unpleasant ride quality!
Shock testing can be done easily by a visual inspection, looking for worn out bushes or oil leaks as well as the bounce test. Simply bounce once on one corner of the vehicle and if the vehicle oscillates more than once the shocks are showing signs of wear. As a general guide it is recommended to change the shocks after around 80,000kms  - if regularly travelling on rough or harsh terrain it is likely they may need replacement earlier.

Should I replace both the front and rear shocks at the same time?

Only if necessary, if both the front and rear shocks are worn out and no longer performing as they should you would change all four. If only one end of the vehicle has worn shocks you can simply replace the worn parts.

Keep in mind  it is recommend to replace shocks in pairs to ensure even wear.

Will new shocks improve the ride quality?

If you are replacing old worn out shocks, Yes you will notice better ride control, stability and comfort. As worn shocks are no longer effectively controlling the pitch and roll of the vehicle this translates to poor ride quality and the feeling of instability. New shocks will absorb bumps and react efficiently to provide a much improved ride!
